Department overview

The Department of Human Development & Family Studies, formerly the Department of Home Economics Education, was founded in 1953 with the objective of training secondary school teachers. The Master’s and Doctoral Programs were established in 1982 and 1996 respectively. The Undergraduate , Master Program and Doctoral Program all encompass two major fields– Family Life Education and Child Development & Education.

Family Life Education

  1. Understand the development and the trend of family sciences
  2. Get familiar with extension services and support system of family life education  
  3. Understand and participate in the research of family sciences and family life education
  4. Accumulate well communication skills and the knowledge of collaboration among personal, family and cross-field
  5. Put professional ethics into practice with a culturally sensitive and international perspective

Child Development & Education

  1. Understand and possess professional
    knowledge and competencies in child development and education    ..
  2. Broaden students’ diverse visions and strengthen their abilities to care children and family of multicultural backgrounds.

  3. Acquire the competence to reflect, teach
    and apply research practices in child development and education.

    Demonstrate an understanding of
    international perspectives, cultivate collaborative skills and develop an
    awareness of professional ethics.

Family Life Education

  1. analyze the development and trend issues of family sciences

  3. Acquire a strong foundation of knowledge to implement family life education for individuals, families and communities
  4. conduct the research in family sciences and family life education
  5. Demonstrate ability to collaborate and lead in interdisciplinary teams

Child Development & Education

  1. Establish and possess profound
    professional knowledge and competencies in child development and education    .

  2. Advance the understanding of diverse perspectives and care in child
    development and education.

  3. Demonstrate
    profound knowledge of professional ethics and innovative research in child
    development and education.

  4. Articulate
    insight into current trends, issues and leadership in child development and
    education.

  5. Broaden an understanding of international
    perspectives and strengthen collaborative skills.

     

     

Department Characteristics

The focus of our department is to explore quality of all aspects of life from a life course perspective. Professional domains include Family Life Education and Child Development & Education. In an effort to meet urgent societal development needs, our department offers three career tracks for each professional domain: teaching, research, promotion & management.
